There is no "atheist position" on anything... Except that the case for a supreme being or creator is unconvincing. Trying to get atheists to agree on anything else is like herding cats.

How to accept the actions of the Old Testament God
by confusedandalone inhow are we able to do this.. this is not an attempt to stir the pot or cause confusion but i was sitting here thinking of all the really horrid things that the old testament god did to people.
when i was a jw i just purposely put it to the back of my mind always trying to make an excuse.
when i was in field service and someone would ask me about it i would just change the subject.. however i have been reading alot of info lately here about how wonderful jesus is and how he is a direct representation of what god the father would be.

The closest thing I've heard is, "how dare you challenge the actions of god?" haha

Update on fading
by Skipper12 inhaven't posted anything here since my first post almost 5 months ago (you can read it here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/experiences/255032/1/great-roi-successfully-fading#.uopjv-kdzyi), but i'm lurking around here almost on a daily basis.. short update:.
- all jw's on my part of the family are fully awake about ttatt and have fast-forwarded into 'fading mode'.
they are missing meetings, no longer go out in field service (but still send a fictious time slip at the end of the month), have missed the recent assembly.. - my father is now an ex-elder.

Right now, people in the Philippines are being taught a tough lesson. What is happening to them is proof that either god hates them, doesn't care about them or isn't real.

Emergency relief fund for the Philippines. How will it work.
by joe134cd ini was just thinking it will be interesting to see how the wts emergency relief fund will operate in the philippines.
ok it worked well with the storm in florida, with cashing in on the insurance cheques.
sorry to generalize, but americans have the disposable income, and the insurance polices for things like this - a thing the wtbts finds very attractive.

In Haiti, they only helped their own buildings and SOME of the local brothers. They like to say they're being humble by not publicizing their relief efforts. The truth is, their "efforts" are barely measurable.

What is the best for the child if father knows TTATT and mother is a devout JW?
by Daniel1555 inhi friends.
i would like to know your opinion on the following:.
situation:.

The father would have to be ok with the child eventually learning he has been living a lie all along for option 1 to work. What kind of message does that send to the child?
Option 2: the odds are on the father's side. 60% of born in JWs leave even if both parents are JWs. The father has aN opportunity to help the child learn to think for himself in either case.
Personally, it would be more important for both parents to be reasonable and agree on how they will raise the child, otherwise the marriage will suffer badly. This would hurt the child more. Most of us here are proof that life long cult indoctrination can be overcome, though it does leave its scars

Is JW Baptism the Only Valid Baptism?
by Cold Steel inwhat is the watchtower bible and tract societys view on baptism?
is it absolutely essential that one be baptized to gain eternal life in gods kingdom?.
and can they tell you who you can and cant baptize?.

Yeah to a JW no other baptism is legit. In their defense, though.... They only baptize people who are alive!

Genital Mutilation - Is anyone watching this?
by Slidin Fast inuk chanel 4 " the cruel cut".
in the uk in black and asian communities female genital mutilation(fgm) or destruction of the clitoris and the labia of young girls is practised.
this horror is common in the uk, it is illegal and has been for 28 years but there has not been one prosecution.. this got me thinking.

While the degrees may not be the same, the name and purpose are the same for males and females. Genital mutation is intended to dull sexual pleasure.
"Wow what a beautiful baby boy! He's almost perfect. You know what would make him even better? We should cut the skin off the tip of his penis! That'll do it."
There are still in this day and age JWs who think it is more hygienic to circumcise. To this I always reply, "why? Did god make a mistake when he designed the penis? Did he accidentally put too much skin on?"
All that being said, FGM is disgraceful. It should be illegal, along with every other practice religious or otherwise, that is harmful to people who observe them and their children.
